American Institute of Architects’ plan to extend into foreign fields

The American Institute of Architects, AIA, plans to extend its territories beyond buildings and designs into other fields especially the health sector. The Institute, founded in 1857 as a form of a support group for architects in the United States has since evolved to provide education, advocacy, and even community outreach activities to help uplift architecture as a whole.

It only started with 13 members but now has almost 100,000 members. With five levels of membership namely; architect, associate, international associate, emeritus, and allied-AIA.

AIA ensures that its members follow a strict code of conduct to assure clients of professionalism. At the helm of its leadership is Robert Ivy, the Chief Executive Officer, and the Executive Vice President. Elected as CEO of AIA in 2010, Ivy’s credentials include a Bachelors degree in Arts, English, from the University of the South, Tennessee, and a Masters degree in Architecture from Tulane University.

Robert Ivy has been encouraging architects to shift focus from design, building, and construction to other sectors to spread the positive impact of architecture to other industries as well.Ivy, in an interview with Reena Jana from Smart Planet, explained how architecture could impact the public health industry through design. He gave an example of the draining of swamps during the rehabilitation of the Central Park in a bid to improve sanitation. Learn more at Crunchbase about Robert Ivy

Ivy also encouraged designs of buildings that promoted healthy living through exercises for instance by use of stairs. The American Institute of Architects plans to use a decade to focus more on finding solutions to health problems and on matters that improve health and well being. These ventures, Robert Ivy explained, will be accomplished through the provision of grants by AIA to Universities to enable them to come up with projects that will innovate ways to solve climate change issues. Architects are also encouraged to adopt the hackathon idea to allow them to work more closely with professionals from other fields and exchange useful ideas.

One of Ivy’s aim has been to educate the public on the relevance and value of architecture and this he has been able to do in part through his book Fay Jones: Architect, which was published by the AIA in 1992. In his career, he has managed to receive many accolades including Folio Award (2009) and the Crain Award in 2009.

In 2010 the National Institute of Architecture (Alpha Rho Chi) decided to unanimously vote him as the Master Architect for his devotion in communicating and publishing advances and ideas in the world of design. Ivy is, without doubt, one of the best architects and design artists of his era, being ranked with the likes of Mies van der Rohe and Buckminster Fuller. The Changes Brought by the American Institute of Architects

The American Institute of Architects changed the face of the profession and the way architects worked. Thr organization added a needed layer of security for architects around the country. Before The American Institute of Architects introduced new regulations, architects had no way to prove they had the qualification or the skill to be in the profession. Employers had to take their word for it. The business in the trade was not as stable as it is today.

In 1857, The American Institute of Architects started its operations, and it picked up speed very fast. The organization was created by architects for architects. The thirteen founders had a clear vision of what they wanted to accomplish with AIA. They decided to move the profession of an architect forwards, believing it deserves more recognition. The founders wished to bring people of the profession closer, to establish a network of communication, collaboration, and community among architect across the United States of America.

The American Institute of Architects started growing rapidly within the first year of its rise. The founders sent out invitations to established architects to join the new organization. Most of them accepted immediately, and that created a wave of even greater interest for The American Institute of Architects.

Over the next decades, The American Institute of Architects erected charters in a number of cities across the country. The headquarters of the institute was initially in New York City but have since been moved to Washington D. C. The American Institute of Architects currently has charters in well or 250 locations.

The leader of The American Institute of Architects for the past few years has been Mr. Robert Ivy. In 2011, he was appointed to the position of Chief Executive Officer, and he was later named Executive Vice President as well.

Mr. Robert Ivy is a former cum laude student of the Sewanee University of the South in English. He then graduated with a Master’s degree in Architecture from the Tulane University.

He started his career in 1996 with his position as Editor in Chief of the Architectural Record. The company appointed him to be the Editorial Director and Vice President of the business. The McGaw Hill Publishing Construction Media publishes a number of magazines and digital journals under its cap such as GreenSource: The Magazine of Sustainable Design, Sweet, ENR, and many others. Jorge Moll on Innovation in Healthcare

Mr. Jorge Moll was recently one f the entrepreneurs who spoke at the event on innovation in health management that took place in the city of Porto Alegre, Brazil earlier this year.

With more than twenty year s in the field, Mr. Jorge Moll is currently the chairman of the board of directors for the company of Rede D Or Sao Luiz. Mr. Jorge Moll spoke at the event and led the second part of the discussion on trends in healthcare management. Mr. Jorge Moll is the founder of Hospital Group that is currently comprised of 32 medical institutions all around Brazil. He is also an investor in innovative facilities such as Copa Star, for example. Mr. Jorge Moll used to work as a cardiologist but took a step in a different direction some years ago.

Jorge Moll brought up the subject of equipment and pointed out that there are still medical institutions that are falling behind in terms of technological advancement. By nature, Mr. Jorge Moll is an idealist, and he has the habit of striving for excellence. His mission is to create as many advanced hospitals in the country as possible in order to take health care in Brazi to a whole new level.

One of the suggestions that Mr. Jorge Moll made at the event was the so-called Total Health management Model which he presented as an alternative to verticalization (ResearchGate). Mr. Jorge Moll also explained that the primary goal of this model is to provide health care to people without wasting resources and at a lower cost. Hospitals that do not receive as many patients can help with pricing their health services lower in order to provide people of all financial backgrounds with health care.

One of the point that Mr. Jorge Moll brought up at the event was entrepreneurship in health care. He talked about how previous generations would make money of off people being sick, but in present times health is profitable and not an illness. Mr. Jorge Moll also laid out the possibility that the country needs more people who think like entrepreneurs in order to bring a new level of development in healthcare.
